During the 1960s, pizza would emerge as an exotic and exciting new trend in Norwegian middle-class party and culinary culture. It was seriously introduced to the general public when the pizzeria Peppes Pizza was established on Solli plass in Oslo in 1970. The restaurant soon became a chain and soon a number of pizzerias were established in Norway.
Why a pizza oven?
One of the geniuses of pizza is that it is very easy to make yourself. This is a point Dagbladet made when the newspaper in 1971 had to tip Norwegian housewives on an easy dinner with which they could easily appease the “master of the house”:

“If the host wants something good tonight, just say a quick note that he can arrange the purchase himself… If the host is the type not to bring back flashy plastic bags , he can settle for the discreet gray, then the mother receives the rest at home. It’s extremely easy to make pizza, and it can very successfully be filled with so many different things, that you probably have something on hand.”
Today, fortunately, the “master of the house” manages to buy the ingredients himself, take them home in “showy” bags and prepare dinner for the “lady of the house” – including a Italian pizza with a crispy and thin base.
